Trendsetting in the ABA, Timeless in the NBA.50th Season
The Spurs and the Alamo stand as enduring symbols of San Antonio, icons of Texas, and beacons of resilience and pride. For the franchise’s 50th anniversary season, we built a comprehensive visual system that honored that stature, positioning the Spurs not only as a team, but as a cultural institution. Extending beyond nostalgia, the Spurs represent both basketball history and a timeless emblem for the state of Texas.
We developed a flexible design system, drawing from archival media, championship eras, and the team’s unmistakable silver-and-black identity that has defined the brand for generations. Built as a commemorative stamp on the enduring Spurs legacy while reflecting the evolution of the modern NBA. A new anniversary logo anchored the system, supported by contemporary and classic typography and an expansive library of vintage-inspired design elements. This system carried across uniforms, court graphics, broadcast, retail, and in-arena experiences.
Beyond honoring titles and legendary players, the system celebrated the Spurs as a symbol of Texas basketball. From San Antonio to the broader South Central region, the visual narrative reinforced the team’s role as a unifying force across cities, cultures, and generations. From its ABA origins in 1973 to five NBA championships, it positioned the Spurs as both a team with history and a brand synonymous with the pride and resilience of the Lone Star State.
The 50th Anniversary season was a milestone, affirming the legacy while embracing the future of the franchise. Through a comprehensive, scalable visual world, we translated five decades of basketball into a living brand experience that connected the past with the present, the community with a global brand.

Docuseries
In celebration of the Spurs 50th season, “Ring of the Rowel” was produced as a 50-part docuseries. It captured the team’s origins to the greatest moments and five NBA Championships through firsthand stories from players, coaches, and those who shaped the Spurs legacy.
A design system was developed for the series, anchored by custom typography, distressed textures, and bespoke graphic elements that nodded to five decades of grit and greatness. At the center was a curated collection of 20 original collages crafted from print and digital media and archival photography. Each collage reflected the various eras of the team alongside rare San Antonio memorabilia to visually chronicle the evolution of the Spurs as part of Texas history. For the interviews, I designed a custom-built backdrop layered with authentic ephemera and historic memorabilia, transforming Spurs history into a tactile, dimensional set piece.

Alamodome Game
Back Home in the Dome marked the Spurs’ return to the Alamodome for a marquee moment during the team’s 50th-anniversary season. An unforgettable night held inside the very building that shaped generations of Spurs basketball, it set the NBA’s single-game attendance record with 68,323 fans. The Alamodome became a living, breathing brand experience where storytelling, design, and fandom converged in a city-wide celebration of Spurs basketball. From concourse to court, each touchpoint was intentionally designed to deepen emotional connection by blending nostalgia with modern production, creating a seamless journey through past and present.
Transforming the Alamodome into a fully realized experiential marketing activation, the arena became an immersive tribute to both the city of San Antonio and the legacy of the Spurs. Featuring large-scale custom murals celebrating iconic eras, interactive installations that invited fans to engage with defining moments in franchise history, and thoughtfully displayed archival memorabilia brought championship seasons and cultural milestones to life. Dedicated props and immersive displays allowed fans to step inside the story, capturing shareable content that extended the experience beyond the game.
